I birthed a corset in the mountains⛰

and it was absolutely the one of the greatest experiences of my year thus far.

My sweet sister Bri, also known as Reverend Briana Lynn, ASKED ME TO COME TO HER HOME AND WORK ON A CUSTOM COMMISSION TOGETHER!

I excitedly drove 3 hours from the West Valley to Julian, California and had such an eye and heart-opening time for the entire week that I was there creating.

We chose to create a piece with the embodiment energy of WARRIOR QUEEN MEDIEVAL BADASS WHO IS RECLAIMING HER BODY AND EXPRESSION. We loved the idea of CHOOSING a corset because we have the FREEDOM to...not because it's required of us to wear it. Bri was excited about creating and emphasizing a deeper curve from her waist to hip and I was able to draft a perfect pattern that hugged her body in the perfect places. She and I also both really love Outlander, so this was the first exploration toward the re-creation of all of Claire's outfits💁🏿‍♂️
our fav dress! DON'T SNEEZE!

At the Sacred Temple, I had a nice smooshy set up

AND I GOT TO WAKE UP TO THIS VIEW EVERYDAY!👇🏿😍

this is literally only 1/4th of the actual view that my phone could capture
breathtaking.

I really love working on the floor while I create because I get to experience a wide range of movement that I don't normally get when chair-sitting. It also helps me move and stretch and really GET INTO the process of what I'm creating.

So, here are the steps to birthing this garment:
1. I take Bri's measurements
2. we have a fitting using a previous corset I constructed for myself (this ceremony with Bri is the FIFTH corset I've made. ever.)
3. I take to paper to draft a pattern based on her measurements
4. I make a mock up out of muslin
5. I fit her in that and made necessary adjustments
6. I make the final double-layered version out of the fabric we chose
and then BOOM! 💥

Creating a corset has so many little details and it takes focus and precision. The hand-sewing details I like to add are also tedious and it makes for a super special garment because I get to sign my loving energy into it with thread! it's pretty cool. I love my life.

here are a few stills from the process and at the very bottom, a sweet video of the entire process PLUS THE FINISHED PRODUCT!!!!
WE ALL LOVE A BIG REVEAL!😉

the boning channels from the mock-up in muslin. I was getting really excited here because you can just see the CURVE COMING TOGETHER in the waist---that's what we were calling in...EXTRA CURVE!

both layers of the bodice sewn together in the final fabric. so crispy.

Half the bodice with boning channels sewn in and the sweetest embroidery details.
